Panic Attacks Symptoms include: A feeling of being overwhelmed, can’t breathe, palpitations, feeling very hot or very cold, nausea, pain the the chest or abdomen, wea kness in the body and shaking legs. There are several reasons why you might suffer a panic attack. Stress is the main trigger but you can still get one even if you are not feeling stressed. Everyone’s different, what is a cause for one may not be the same for you. You may only have one in your life or be someone that has one every so often. You may find that being at a particular place triggers and attack. Most attacks last between 5-20 minutes. Managing an attack is key to faster recovery. Focus on your breathing, slowly in through the nose and out through the mouth. Count to five with each in and out breath. Panicking causes you to hyperventilate, giving too much oxygen to the brain could cause you to faint. After an attack take time to recover. Find a quiet place and have a warm drink. (Nothing alcoholic or containing caffeine) Speak to someone you trust, preferably in person but if not a phone call will help. Causes: Nutritional imbalance Hormonal imbalance High levels of toxicity Emotional Stress Past or childhood experiences Your current life situation Physical and mental health problems Drugs and medication Genetic make up Remember you have a subconscious and conscious self. Your subconscious self also has a memory and something you may not think is relevant could be a trigger to a memory that you find upsetting. What might help: Having a check up to find out the imbalances within you. Look at nutritional and hormonal balance in particular. Vitamin B6 is often low in people who suffer panic attacks. taking the correct dose can significantly help. Low iron can also be a factor. Avoid caffeine, this can have a poor effect on your Adrenal Glands which produce Adrenaline. This hormone is produced allowing the Fight or Flight response and will have a poor effect on your heart rate causing it to race. Both tea and coffee have caffeine in them, as does chocolate. There are some great herbal remedies that can help support your body reducing both physical and emotional stress in your body. Problem Skin? Dry, oily, spotty, itchy, blotchy are all words to describe our skin. Few of us can claim perfect skin all the time, but what makes it behave in a way that causes us a challenge? Nutrition, hormones, hydration, food sensitivity and toxicity are all things that can affect our skin. The first place to start is by looking at hydration. Do you think you drink enough each day to help your body function well? 1.5-2 litres per day is what is recommended which not only helps hydrate our skin but flushes toxins from your liver too. Skin will show what is happening in your liver, so when you have an issue, ask yourself what has your liver had to deal with? Alcohol, medication, poor diet, atmospheric pollutants are just some of the things our livers have to deal with day to day. Fresh fruit and veg are really helpful to cleanse our livers and there are some lovely herbal remedies that can support good liver function too. Gemma is a client of mine seen in my Storrington clinic who had extreme dermatitis on her hands. She works as a nail technician and was having to work in cotton gloves. Her hands we open wounds, bleeding and extremely painful which made her depressed. She had seen several specialists who were not able to help. We looked at toxicity in her body and she made some changes to her diet. She took a liver cleanse herbal remedy along with some good omega oils. When I saw her for an 8 week follow up, her hands were 99% better. Finding out the specific imbalances within you is what I aim to do. Once balanced optimal health is possible!
